speaker biographies
As an Agriculture Transition Specialist with Farm Credit Canada, Val works closely with her clients to help them identify their family succession planning goals and coaches them through the process with the help of professional advisors. She encourages families to get involved early and get the conversation started. It is her personal and individualized approach that helps her assist families and business owners make sense of their options and feel confident that they are prepared to transition the farm.
Craig Macfie earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from the University of Saskatchewan in 2010 and his CPA, CA designation in 2014. Craig’s passion for agriculture has allowed him to spend additional time with clients and staff whose needs reside in Ag Analytics and Transition Planning services. Outside of the office, Craig actively farms with family near Crystal Springs, SK, is a member (PAg) of the Saskatchewan Institute of Agrologists, contributes articles to Grainews, and volunteers with Swift Current Leader Impact.
Vern is one of the firm’s tax partners. Since graduating from high school, he has worked in the accounting industry in Swift Current and obtained his CA designation in 1997. Vern became a partner in a CA firm in 1999 and joined Stark & Marsh in 2008. Vern transferred his clients to another partner in the firm and began to work exclusively in the income tax specialty area. He enrolled in the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants’ In-Depth Tax program that same year and completed it in 2010.
Megan was raised on a farm near Cadillac, SK and attended the University of Regina where she obtained her Bachelors of Arts, Journalism degree with Distinction in 2015. She began writing for numerous publications including the Prairie Post, Medicine Hat News, and Advance Southwest before obtaining her Juris Doctor with Distinction from the College of Law in 2018. She joined Anderson & Company as an articling student in 2018 and is eager to practice in all areas of law in the southwest.
Kim is a sole practitioner with the law firm of Lewans & Ford in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. He was called to the Bar in 1984 and has practiced in Assiniboia, Saskatchewan since 1984. Kim practiced with Paul Lewans until Paul retired in 2012 and has carried on the firm as a sole practitioner since that date. Kim’s primary areas of practice are Real Estate, Wills and Estates and Corporate and Commercial.
